Oldest of Altars

In traditional witchcraft, the oldest and most sacred of goddess altars
is the living and vibrant female body,  Honoring that body is a
ritual of the new moon. When a woman consecrates her altar, she
consecrates symbolically the earth- the goddess' body, and her own. She
does so again in the self-blessing ritual. These are particularly
powerful acts on the night of the new moon, acts that validate, honor,
and empower the woman who performs them. They are acts that connect an
individual woman with all women and with the Be-ing of the goddess as
the moon and earth. The rituals are an entrance into the labyrinth, the
mystery and depths of the connections between physical and spiritual
essence, between all life and immortality. The lack of this
connectedness is one of the imbalances of patriarchy and modern
religions and governments. "Thou art goddess," is a principle wiccan
rule.
