Calling The Quarters
I found this in my old files. Hope this helps.
I will now explain to you, and to everyone else, how
things are done in Wicca...
Calling the Four Quarters according to basic Wiccan
ritual, means calling the Lords of the Elements
which correspond to East, South, West, and North.
It is done so that those Lords (or Creatures,
depending on the verbage used in your particular
Tradition) of Air, Fire, Water, and Earth may witness
the ritual(s), spell(s), or other magickal work
which you are about to do (or cast, or
perform), and, possibly, assist you, in your work...
This is done after the Circle is cast, and after
the newly cast Circle is cleansed and blessed with the
four Elements (Air & Fire [usually with incense and,
perhaps a feather], then, Water & Earth [flaked
salt and blessed water] ... )
The way in which the Four Quarters are called are
(more or less, and again, depending upon your
particular Tradition) as follows:
Starting with the East, then, moving deosil to the
South, West, and North, in turn ... Light the candle
at the ***** Quarter. Draw the Invoking Pentagram
(NOT to be confused with the Devoking, or Banishing
Pentagram!!)
Stand with arms spread wide, palms upturned. (Often,
a bell or chime is rung once, at this point.) Look
to the sky, and say, Guardians of the Watchtower
of the (state the proper direction), Great,
Benevolent, and Powerful Creatures of (state the
proper Element), I [state your name, or your
Magickal Name], do summmon, stir, and call you
forth, to protect this Circle, to witness this
ritual, and to aid and assist me/us in this rite.
Hear my words; Attend to me, and as I will, so mote
it be.
If there are others present, they then respond with,
So mote it be.
Never, ever, ever call the Guardians of the
Watchtowers of the four Quarters, nor indeed, any
other such Entities, nor the
Spirit (the fifth Element), nor the Goddess and/or the
God, without good cause!!!
Never, ever, ever play or play around with
this!!!
Blessed Be
